If you are a beginner in watchmaking and expect to learn how to do that. Don't buy the book. First of all, the question has to be answered 'what does watchmaking mean anyway?' Are we talking about disassembling, cleaning and reassembling watches maybe using some spares? Or are we talking about taking a piece of brass and make an hour wheel from that? Are we talking about how to make a winding stem? Are we talking about how to calculate a watch gear train?This book is written by George Daniels one of the finest watchmakers in the UK. What he shows is: how to design and build a watch. From the very beginning. Just from raw-materials. And although I am merely repairing watches or even less, cleaning watches, I was fascinated by this book. I own an Omega watch with a so called Co-Axial escapement was invented by this very George Daniels.Highly recommended for the watch enthusiast who wants to get an idea of how watches are actually designend and built.
Classic book, good understanding of a great hobby. If you collect watches, this is a must have book
In diesem Buch steht alles über die Uhrmacherei. Ich bin froh es zu besitzen, kann ich nur empfehlen! Es wird von der Empfehlung wie eine Werkstatt auszusehen bis zum herstellen von Zeigern oder Federn alles beschrieben.Danke Mr. Daniels

Das Einzige, was ich zu diesem wunderbaren Buch sagen will, "ich muss mir selbst gratulieren, dass ich es erworben habe".
The book is great for a very experienced watchmaker, but don't expect to learn much as a beginner. The book is way too advanced for that.
Pros: Detailed information about every component of a watch. Comparision of different constructions - pros and cons, modern and old versions. Instructions how to make individual elements and how to fit them together. Clear, informative illustrations and descritpions.Cons: Author often describes how to properly make certain component before description what it is. For someone who had previous contact with watchmaking and knows proffesional vocabulary it is not a problem but for a beginner like me the book is a bit hard to read. But it does not mean that amateur will have no benefit from this book - in most cases needed information is only a few pages away - a little bit patience pays off.Summary: if, for some reason, i lose this book - i buy it again.
